Elizabeth Dee Gallery(2037 5th Ave, New York, NY 10035) is pleased to present Lucia Hierro’s exhibition of new works, Mercado.
In this presentation, the Dominican-American conceptual artist introduces her “bags,” a series of sculptural objects which utilize a broad platform of techniques that include digital media, painting, installation art, sculpture and color theory as tools to tackle ideas of exclusion and privilege. The bags employ fragmented signifiers from pop culture, everyday items such as Vick’s Vaporub and supermarket circulars to engage the viewer in a discourse on issues of class, culture, identity and gender. The works in this series explore the symbiotic relationship between personal narrative and larger economic structures.
